Three Short Pieces for Piano
Three Short Pieces for Piano explores the virtuosity of the performer. The opening movement What Should Be, ponders on an anticipated situation from a dream. It features open sonorities and ends with a sense of sadness as one may feel of returning to the realities of everyday life. The second movement In Cyclical Motion, utilizes a Major 7th motive throughout and also moves around the circle of fourths in a cyclical fashion. The movement is improvisatory in nature and requires great attention to syncopation. The last movement Fugue, takes a traditional fugue subject and contorts it through chromatic means and a non standard fugue structure. The whole work lasts around 7'22'' making it very programmable for a recital setting.
